The BN Poetry Award is an annual poetry prize for Ugandan women which began in 2008 as a platform for promoting poetry in Uganda. It was started by Beverley Nambozo Nsengiyunva.
After 5 years, the BN Poetry Award will extend to include the entire continent of Africa targeting both women and men. The name has since changed from Beverley Nambozo to Babishai Niwe. https://bnpoetryaward.blogspot.com and www.bnpoetryaward.co.ug.
The winners of this year Rashida Namulondo, Pamela Orogot and Kelly Taremwa will participate in the Storymoja Hay Festival in Nairobi.
The theme for the 2013 award was Innovation and the winners have also won cash prizes of 500 USD, 300 USD and 200 USD respectively. All the winners from 2009, alongside other poets from Africa will also be included in a poetry anthology which will be published this year.
Amongst other prizes, each winner received autographed copies of Home Floats in the Distance /ZUHAUSE TREIBT IN DER FERNE, Dr. Susan Kiguli’s second poetry collection which is also bi-lingual, autographed copies of Diaries of a Dead African, by Chuma Nwokolo, Jr and Songs of Paradise by Justice James Ogoola.
The award has received a lot of support from Stichting Doen, Prince Claus Fund, local and international media, friends and literary partners.
