The Storymoja Hay Festival officially begins tomorrow! But in the meantime we have been busy! Yesterday, I took the festival to two orphanages, SOS Children’s Villages and Mama Fatuma. The children in both places were bright and beautiful and the staff who ensure that they are cared for are dedicated and inspiring beyond words.

It was a privilege to read my “Anna Hibiscus” and “No.1 Car Spotter” stories to them. And to tell them traditional tales from the Diaspora. In turn they shared with me some fabulous traditional Kenyan tales!! Tales I will now be telling to children all over the world! A generous sponsor is all it would take for these bright and beautiful children to attend the Storymoja Hay festival itself!
Besides love, the next best thing to give children, I think, is a good story. But, of course, love encompasses even the stories. You are doing a tremendous and momentous work.
